SimulatorSteve Goben (Fire Safety) Ltd wins prestigious new contract at Manchester Airport

Working in conjunction with Prosys Controls, Steve Goben (Fire Safety) Ltd are fitting out the new 747 simulator which has been sited just of runway 4 at Manchester airport.

The simulator which was expertly designed and constructed by a Derby based company is for the training of the airport fire department in controlling and fighting fires in aircraft. The simulator is constructed entirely of steel and imitates exactly to scale the interior and exterior details of a Boeing 747 aircraft.

TrainingStrategically placed throughout the simulator are 'fire boxes' which can, from the control tower, ignited gas jets to simulate real fires on board the aircraft. These fires can be varied in intensity and can give an accurate simulation of the real thing. Fire crews, under instruction and full supervision, are then sent into the aircraft to tackle the various scenario's presented to them.

Steve Goben (Fire Safety) Ltd are contracted to install throughout all floors of the simulator the containment system, lighting, data sensors and control wiring, carefully routing them and using fire resistant materials to stand the heat of the fire simulations.

This is a six week contract and is due completion in August 2006.
